Michael Alexander is the standard-bearer of what it means to be a champion of the arts, a cultural crusader.
To the great benefit of hundreds of thousands of people, Michael Alexander has spent his career bringing people together through the arts. Michael is a firm believer that access to the arts is a right and not a privilege. California’s beautifully integrated, multi-cultured population has reflected a strong appetite for creative diversity. That craving has been fed with insight, vision, humility, humor and passion. And yes, our lives are better for it.
While learning from vast experience and accomplishments, Michael has used that knowledge to seek and embrace advocacy. His work has addressed arts funding, live-work laws, touring and other public policy issues that have improved opportunities for artists and the greater art community to interact with people no matter where they live or their socio-economic situation.
It would be easy to list the accomplishments of Michael for hours on end. A very simple litmus test and testimonial to his successful career can be seen first-hand on most week-end evenings throughout the summer at Grand Performances. Watch the man in the white hat and warm smile as he moves through the crowd. Strangers stop and engage him in conversation. Thanking him for his work and feeling like they’ve known him for years. This is a fitting reception for a man whose love of the arts rewarded him with a fruitful career that we have all benefitted from.
It would be foolish of us to disregard Michael’s history and think that he will ride off into the musical sunset. Suffice to say, we are more than eager to see what he does next.
