daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra Program

There’s a reason that people all over the world keep looking to Los Angeles for what’s new, what’s hip and what's next.  Our creative community has made LA the focus of attention for anyone watching fashion, design, visual art, entertainment and the performing arts.  Artists know this is the current creative capital of the world.

Grand Performances has prided itself on identifying the most exciting and talented artists from our neighborhoods for introduction to the broader community.  These artists demonstrate a creative approach that marks them as unique not just in Los Angeles, but on a larger stage, and many have gone on to successful national and international careers

Among those artists Grand Performances has championed through the years is Geoff “Double G” Gallegos.  He has created a unique repertoire and gathered together a remarkably diverse ensemble of our city's best musicians (sometimes 70+ strong).  In our many interactions with colleagues around the country, there is no one else quite like Double G who has created an orchestra that speaks to a new generation of audience and artists.

It’s been 15 years since Double G’s daKah Hip Hop Orchestra, the enormous, OG symphony, first graced our stage, and two years since the last incredible performance. Grand Performances has brought them back in our 30th anniversary year so our audience can once again celebrate as the strings, beats, rhymes, braids and melodies fly, float and lift our spirits ever higher.
