Three Year Strategic Plan

As Grand Performances moves toward our 40th Anniversary in 2026, the Board of Directors and staff collaborated with consultants Jessica Cusick and Debra J.T. Padilla to craft a strategic plan for the next three years. The plan was developed over six months in 2023, through a process that included research, benchmarking, and the participation of key stakeholders.

The strategic plan sets forth a vision, four key goals, an action plan, and an implementation chart for 2024 through 2027. The vision encompasses an organization that will delight Angelenos with an eclectic blend of diverse performing arts offerings for years to come, continuing to do what it has done so well. That means building an organization that has grown sufficiently to achieve its mission sustainably, with a stable financial and organizational infrastructure, and that has embarked year-round on initiatives that will further its mission.

The strategic plan is structured around four broad goals that reflect distinct aspects of the vision.

GOAL #1: SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

Over the next three years, Grand Performances is committed to growing its annual budget to a level that will allow it to sustain current programs and develop new initiatives.

GOAL #2: A STABLE ORGANIZATION

Grand Performances will work to enhance overall organizational infrastructure, putting in place various policies and resources that will improve overall stability and support the hardworking team that successfully delivers Grand Performances programs.

GOAL #3: NEW INITIATIVES

To enhance its ability to achieve its mission, Grand Performances is committed to identifying new revenue streams that will support expanding the staff and undertaking innovative programs year-round. These include expanded venue rentals, and select for services contracts, as well as exploring new ways to leverage their extensive digital library. The programs will focus on expanding access to free performing arts for all in various ways, from building new cultural partnerships to taking the show on the road.


GOAL #4: AMPLIFY AWARENESS OF THE ORGANIZATION

Grand Performances is Los Angeles’ longest-running free outdoor performance venue. It has built an unparalleled legacy that crosses generations, cultures, and genres. As the organization looks at positioning itself for the next forty years, Grand Performances is committed to capturing the stories of the past, cultivating new audiences, and re-establishing its brand.

The goals are supplemented by an action plan detailing a series of objectives and associated strategies the organization may undertake as it seeks to achieve its priorities. The three-year action plan is comprehensive and ambitious, aligns with Grand Performances' overarching goals, and lays out the objectives and strategies the organization will undertake moving forward.

The action plan provides the structure for achieving the vision articulated for Grand Performances in 2026 -- an organization that will delight Angelenos with a carefully curated, eclectic blend of diverse performing arts and related activities for years to come. The board and staff are fully committed to implementing the plan and fulfilling the vision.
