New York native vocalist and songwriter, Dahlia, was birthed into the journey she is still on. With a focus on dance performance for over a decade, she also found love in poetry, theater and classical vocal performance. As a teenager, she shifted her focus and integrated her 10+ years of performance art study into songwriting. This began as an effort to cultivate a sense of individuality and simultaneously celebrate these traditional performance art forms she holds so dear. Her lyrics are flooded with themes of love, fluidity, empowerment, chaos, order and chaos again. Her first release, “Arrival” dropped in 2017 and lyrically, could potentially play out to be the thesis of her musical career. “This is about my liberation,” she says at the close of every hook. Since Arrival, she has expanded beyond writing for herself and has begun to write and co-write for emerging and veteran R&B and pop artists. Her latest release, “Venus” is her debut EP which dropped at the close of 2019. “Venus” is deeply inspired by love, femininity and is very much a product of her musical inspirations. Dahlia is influenced by Hiatus Kaiyote, Bjork, Kadjha Bonet, Solange, Radiohead, My Chemical Romance, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and beyond. Her love for alternative and mainstream music collide time and time again in her musical output. Her latest release, “Venus” is her debut EP which dropped at the close of 2019. She said this “I want people to feel inspired and empowered when they hear my music because so often I realize that my music isn’t for me, it’s for the people listening. I hope my output does more for the world then it does for me.”
