Vivaldi  The Four Seasons

Piazzolla  Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas

In this concert northern and southern hemispheres collide in a dazzling evening performed under the stars of Vivaldi’s radiant Four Seasons with Piazzolla’s evocative and sultry Argentinian response. Expect explosive, edge of the seat music-making, the ferocious energy of Vivaldi’s iconic masterpiece juxtaposed with Piazzolla’s tango-inspired Buenos Aires homage. De León de Vega directs a virtuosic tour de force.

Sonia Marie De León de Vega is an LA-based symphony and opera conductor and a leading influence in the growing Latino culture in the United States. Best known for starting the Santa Cecilia Orchestra in 1992 and through that, the Discovering Music program – a two year program that takes orchestra members into underserved Latino neighborhoods to introduce communities to classical music – she also has many other accolades that highlight her life in the arts. She was the first woman in history to conduct a symphony orchestra for the Pope, she was named named Outstanding Latina of the Year in 2000 by Univision, Mervyns, and Target, and she was voted one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the US twice.
