Grand Performances (GP) proudly presents its new Artist Takeover series with Raul Pacheco of GRAMMY-winning Latin band Ozomatli. Taking place on GP’s Instagram and Facebook Live, audiences will witness a solo set composed of both new and old material from founding member Pacheco. Incorporating Cumbia, Salsa, Hip Hop and Funk motifs, Pacheco’s performance is intended to uplift spirits amidst the new norm created by COVID-19 and give music aficionados the opportunity to engage with the musician and GP board member in an intimate setting.
Los Angeles native, songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Pacheco formed Ozomatli in 1995. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1998 featuring cult classic "Cumbia del Muerto” and opened for Carlos Santana on his “Supernatural” world tour. The group is known for their vocal activist viewpoints and have advocated for farmworkers’ rights and immigration reform.
In 2001, Ozomatli earned a Grammy award for “Embrace The Chaos” in the Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album category and won again in 2004 with their project, “Street Signs.” The collective was subsequently recruited to compose music for “Happy Feet 2” and released a children’s album entitled “Ozokidz.” From 2011 to 2014, Ozomatli also served as the house band for stand-up comedian Gabriel Iglesias' television show, “Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution.”
