Grand Performances, whose cross-discipline and cross-cultural fare at California Plaza have long been a staple of downtown L.A. culture, has announced its 2017 lineup of music, dance, theater, film, spoken word and children’s entertainment for the summer.

The series’ 31st season has a typically global reach, and its highlights include: William Close’s Earth Harp (which will be strung from a 52-story skyscraper onto the concert stage); Latin Grammy winners Septeto Santiaguero from Cuba; an L.A./Guadalajara “exchange” night featuring Gaby Moreno and Caloncho; another (Colombia/L.A.) with Sidestepper and Buyepongo; the Irag/Syria pairing of Rahim AlHaj and Asher Shasho Levy; the Congo’s L’Orchestre Afrisa International; a special program from Miguel Atwood-Ferguson; another from Mark de Clive-Lowe; Daedelus and much more.
