With the return of summer, comes the return of Grand Performances‘ free summer concerts in Los Angeles. Grand Performances makes its way to the California Plaza beginning June 4 with the COLA 2022 Artist Fellows featuring percussionist Najite Agindotan, actor Jibz Cameron, poet Shonda Buchanan, and choreographer Suchi Branfman — and ending on September 24 with Reneé Goust. Grand Performances’ Free Summer Concerts lineup will feature a wide range of musical styles and generations, including cumbia, classical, funk, folkloric, jazz, and jam bands.
“This summer feels like a homecoming celebration – a new renaissance of live music in downtown Los Angeles” explains GP’s Creative and Artistic Director Stewart Irel. “After going through all the pandemic closures, this is our chance to come together again and reconnect through the joy of music, dance and the performing arts.”
With that said, get ready for the exciting return of FREE summer concerts in L.A. with an incredible lineup that includes: COLA 2022 Artist Fellows, Aditya Prakash Ensemble and Nick Smith; a special 2 pm Father’s day celebration fun for the whole familia with a live performance by Lucky Diaz and the Family Band, as well as DJs, dancing, games and more. Boleros De Noche will present a Tribute to Agustín Lara, there’s live shows by Scary Pockets and Rozzi Crane, World Stage presents Black Nile and one of L.A.’s finest DJs and producers: Linafornia.
Fans can also check out performances by Ali Sethi (presented by Pakistan Arts Council Los Angeles) with his blockbuster hit “Pasoori,” Filipina singer-songwriter Melissa Polinar, Extra Ancestral, Cumbiatón, a tribute to Alice Coltrane featuring Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Surya Botofasina (dublab presents), and so many more exciting performances. View the full Grand Performances lineup below.
Moreover, on August 21, Grand Performances will host a concert at Plummer Park in West Hollywood with M&M Afro-Persian Experience in addition to all of Grand Performances’ California Plaza shows. And after a successful run at Grand Performances, Summer Nights with KCRW is returning on July 30 and September 3. The performing acts have yet to be announced, but considering its KCRW, you can expect something amazing.
Since its inception, Grand Performances’ mission has been to provide free access to world-class performing arts to inspire a sense of belonging, celebrate cultural diversity, and bring the Los Angeles community together. Because of these values, and their endless commitment to representing all the beautiful cultures that make Los Angeles truly one of the best cities in the world (if not the best…), Grand Performances is on of L.A.’s most beloved free summer concert series. It’s a summer pastime that many Angelenos look forward to, as well as surrounding visitors.
All Grand Performances concerts are free, outdoor, and open to the public of any age. California Plaza is the home of all Grand Performances with exception to the aforementioned Plummer Park event. Located at 350 S Grand Ave. in Downtown Los Angeles, all Grand Performances concerts run from 6pm to 10 pm, unless otherwise noted on their schedule.
