Ali Sethi & Discostan
We’re still buzzing from this past Saturday’s Ali Sethi and Discostan show. As a celebration Pakistani and South Asian music and culture, we paired Sethi (who recently achieved global superstardom with his #1 international hit song “Pasoori”) with Discostan - a pair of global crate diggers and groove curators who specialize in vintage dance beats from South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
With their music serving as the soundtrack, the theme for the evening was peace, unity, and reverence for one’s heritage - whatever that might be.
Their global appeal was on full display, as California Plaza was filled with thousands of fans from all walks of life. Thanks to the bright colors and intricate patterns of Pakistani and Indian sarees (traditional dresses), this was our most fashionable Grand Performances crowd of the 2022 season!
Our crowd was not only fashionable, but also energetic. Discostan and Ali Sethi share a talent for bridging the old with the new, creating music that spans eras and cultures. Both acts pulled the crowd out of their seats and got them on their feet dancing.
Saturday was a celebration of Pakistani food as well! Supporting members of the Pakistan Arts Council and the Aga Khan who helped make this show happen were treated to a buffet of Pakistani food and a plethora of hot and cold tea options provided by our friends at Ahmad Tea.
