Fared Shafinury

  • Grand Performances 350 South Grand Avenue Los Angeles, CA, 90071 United States (map)

FREE summer concerts in the heart of Downtown L.A.

This evening hosted by KCRW DJ Tom Schnabel

Iranian American Fared Shafinury and his Texas-based ensemble create a heady, multifaceted mix of music that shines a light on the sibling-like voices of the Iranian setar and the Indian sitar. The traditional rhythms and melodies of Iran upon which his music is based will be thrust into the 21st century with the addition of electronic beats and American folk/rock.

The virtuosic power in his voice will take you from the sleepy beach towns along the Gulf of Mexico, to the soft gentile rolling hills of central Texas, to the dramatic mist hidden cliffs of Big Sur California, and melodically retracing an arc back to the the foothills of a modern Tehran today.

Shafinury will be joined by special guests; percussionists, Dara Afraz and Jason Mckenzie, clarinet player, Jason Ditzian, world class Sitar player, Indrajit Banerjee, Kamanche player, Saba Alizadeh and more.

*Complimentary bike valet will be available on the Upper Plaza
