Los Angeles - Grand Performances (GP), the longest-running presenter of high quality free programs in downtown LA, is proud to announce Mia Doi Todd’s COLA 2020 Individual Artist Fellowship Feature Presentation, premiering on YouTube and Facebook on Saturday July 11th, 2020 at 5:00pm PST.

This cinematic music experience is the first installment of Grand Performances’ Summer 2020 series of online Feature Presentations, continuing the organization's mission to inspire community, celebrate diversity, and unite Los Angeles through free access to global performing arts.

Mia Doi Todd’s performance is part of GP’s long-standing history of collaboration with COLA (City of Los Angeles) Department of Cultural Affairs, which honors creative artists with distinguished records of innovation and experimentation.

This summer, due to restrictions on public gatherings, GP has pivoted its programming online with a series of weekly livestream Artist TAKEOVERS on Facebook and Instagram featuring intimate performances from artists at home during quarantine. In addition to the livestreams, Grand Performances is also showcasing Feature Presentations, a series of cinematic music experiences beginning with Mia Doi Todd and continuing next Saturday July 18th with spoken word poet Steven Reigns.

Mia Doi Todd’s performance features 5 new songs, filmed by GP’s Creative Director Azul Amaral and Director of Photography Eric Coleman, which explore her deeply personal experiences and reflections on motherhood, nature, memory, injustice, tragedy, resilience, and hope.

Over the last 20 years, Mia Doi Todd has released a dozen solo albums and appeared on countless recordings with other artists, including Saul Williams, The Folk Implosion, and David J of Bauhaus. Her ninth album, Cosmic Ocean Ship, was chosen by Ben Ratliff of The New York Times as one of the top ten records of 2011.

ABOUT GRAND PERFORMANCES: Hailed as the “Best Free Outdoor Summer Concert Series” by Los Angeles Magazine and called “a grand gift to the public” by The Los Angeles Times, Grand Performances celebrates its 34th season of presenting high-quality music, dance, theater, and more in 2020.
