LOS ANGELES – (July 14, 2022) Grand Performances, the longest-running presenter of free concerts in downtown Los Angeles is partnering with the Pakistan Arts Council, Los Angeles and the Aga Khan Museum to present global sensation Ali Sethi and Discostan on July 23rd at California Plaza in the heart of DTLA. Ali Sethi, one of Pakistan’s most popular pop stars is a classically trained musician, singer-songwriter, composer, and author who was born in Lahore, Pakistan who uses his roots to influence his music. Discostan is a diasporic discotheque that uses past, present, and future soundscapes from South and West Asia.
Sethi’s latest single “Pasoori” has not only reached over a hundred million views on YouTube since its release earlier this year, it is also currently #1 on the international pop charts. He uses traditional music as a safe place to express himself and as a form of protest against different issues.
Discostan was founded by Arshia Fatima Haq and co-helmed by Jeremy Loudenback. They have performed around Europe, Asia, and the United States. With their expertise in contemporary music and in the archival field and folk recordings it allows them to present their listeners with the rawest form of their music.
“We’re excited to host international chart topper Ali Sethi and Discostan presenting a vast archive of golden-age music to the most forward-thinking creative sounds, we’re in for a special evening of transcending boundaries on one stage,” said GP’s Creative and Artistic Director Stewart Irel.
