GP RECEIVES INCREASED FUNDING FOR ‘LAX PRESENTS’ MUSICAL ARTS PROGRAM

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 2018) – Grand Performances will double the number of performances it presents at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) thanks to an increase in funding from The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC). Grand Performances received an additional $150,000 for the development and production of LAX Presents, a cultural music program presented at LAX to greet travelers. Grand Performances collaborates with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) on the LAX Presents program, which features Los Angeles- based artists performing in the unique space of an international airport.

“We are proud to collaborate with Los Angeles World Airports and LAX, in creating these unique experiences for travelers. And we thank the commission for supporting our vision of bringing the arts directly to the people,” said Mari Riddle, Executive Director, Grand Performances. “LAX Presents gives local Los Angeles artists and musicians opportunities to reach new audiences while welcoming travelers to Los Angeles.”

LAX Presents brings together artists from across Los Angeles to perform at various locations throughout the airport, enlivens the airport’s public spaces, and delivers distinctive cultural encounters to travelers and LAX employees.

According to Gabriel L. Eshaghian, Commissioner, BOAC, the partnership with Grand Performances helps LAX provide that unique experience for those who work at and travel through our airport. “We are pleased to expand this program so that even more of our guests will be able to experience live performances at LAX," said Eshaghian.

Approximately one-third of the performances will be classical music, and the rest will include international music or other types of performances. The additional funding also will allow LAWA and Grand Performances to produce two sing-along events, one in the spring and one in the fall, which will include live music and dancers.
